The world is dependent on a range of different energy sources. In 2018 fossil fuels, such as oil, gas and coal, accounted for more than 81 percent of energy diverse fonti energetiche consumed. Renewable energy sources such as solar power, wind power, biomass, and hydroelectricity make up 14 percent. Nuclear energy is 5 percent. Different countries have different sources of energy to meet economic needs and environmental concerns.
Nature’s energy comes in many forms: sun, wind, waves, and ocean. These sources of energy can be transformed into more practical energy forms, such as heat or electricity, when they are harnessed. When those energies are exhausted, they are nonrenewable energy sources.
A lot of fossil fuels and a few of the other sources of energy that aren’t renewable can be harmful to the environment. For instance, mining for oil can strip the planet’s pristine forests. Hydraulic fracture (fracking) can trigger earthquakes and pollution of water. Carbon dioxide is released when coal is burned and contributes to global warming.
Fortunately, many of the most promising sources of energy are renewable and sustainable. Hydropower, solar power and wind, for instance, can generate electricity without the need to search for new resources.
Tidal and Wave Power are also sustainable energy sources that are emerging. However, to be utilized on a massive scale these technologies require efficient distribution networks. This requires the use non-renewable energies to build these networks. In the end, these sources aren’t capable of meeting the majority of our energy needs. It’s important to remember that the prices of renewable energy equipment have dropped dramatically in recent years and the efficiency of these equipments is growing.
